Happy Chinese New Year

Happy CNY! This would be my first time celebrating cny without my family, and it's not fun at all. Well.. at least i manage to celebrate a little with my aunt, she gave me ang pau wohoo, at least one aspect of cny was still here.

I had my cny dinner at a place called Wong Ting near the city center, a few of us joined the singapore society. This is because the massoc's cny dinner was after cny.. yea weird.. the dinner was alright, food isn't that good but at least i met new people and there was a cny feeling to it. ^^

Manchester Games

Like Nottingham Games, I travelled to Manchester to compete in basketball. Woke up early to prepare and made my way to the train station. I arrived a too early though.. i forgot the was going out with a bunch of malaysian with their timing.

When they finally arrived, the most amazing thing happened. I realise I left my basketball shoes in my room. Awesome right? who the heck goes to a basketball competition without basketball shoes?! Lols i always laugh when i think about it.

Nothing much to talk about the games we played cause.. we got our butt kicked.. real badly..

Up side! I met a few nice people, and we had dim sum! It was rather cheap (don't convert) and they tasted good too.

Exam Results

The moment of truth. Exam results were passed to personal tutors and students are given the choice to find out their results sooner or later. I chose sooner, couldn't take the pressure of not knowing how i did.

So i went up to my tutor's office and knocked on his door. I told him my reason of visit and he started  looking though piles of papers while i sat waiting with sweaty palms.

He took awhile to find my results as he forgot what year i was in. When finally found the paper, he gave me a serious face and told me that the exam results are most likely not to change from the official release. At that moment I thought I had failed a paper and had to retake.. I'm so screwed..

Then he flipped the paper to look for my name and cooly, "first of all you passed all your modules" Hell yeah! I lied on the table after hearing it. He passed me a paper to write down my marks for each module.

As expected, I did badly for the Manufacturing paper.. but extremely happy i passed.

Anyway here are my marks.

MEC214 - 46
MAS253 - 80
EEE218 - 91
MEC202 - 71
MEC205 - 59
MEC203 - 86

and those make an average of 72.2 which is first class! haha I'm pretty happy when I found out  that not only did i passed everything i averaged a first class. Cool.

But now that the excitement had settled down, I realise that I could've done better and I need to do better if I were to maintain my first class. So spring semester here I come!

Winter

Haven't blogged for a long time, sort of busy but mainly cause i was lazy hehe. Anyway I'm back from Amsterdam and i shall catch up with some overdue posts.

First off.. we have winter post!

Winter has passed and spring is already here, but i still remember my first winter quite clearly. It was afterall my first time experiencing the chill of winter and the white of snow.
I knew winter was coming when gale winds were gusting all day, and boy was it colddd~ If you're lucky enough the wind blows the direction you're walking.. otherwise your traveling time just doubled. Honestly! the wind was so strong that it was impossible to walk straight.

There were a few days when i walk back around 3am from the library.. It was crazy cold, lucky to be alive haha.

And then finally.. it snowed. The first time it snowed here in Sheffield, I couldn't believe my eyes. That's cause I never thought snow would look like that.. well 'that' being like.. cotton! yes that's it, it's like small pieces of cotton falling from the sky.

I was quite excited about it (jakun a bit) so I ran out of my room and onto the parking lot. Looking up the sky, snow was falling down on my face. It didn't snow as heavy as it will be later but for a kid like me, it was more than enough. Oh yea, i did open my mouth and tasted it, of course, it's tasteless.

Few days later it snowed quite heavily, I'd say about.. 8cm thick snow. It was fun! I took a handfull of snow and ate it up. Later that night, Azarel came over to print his plane ticket, I said I'll print it for him but he has to make a snowman with me. Snowboy was born! *pictures @ fb*

All my flatmates went back home during winter, I was the only one occupying my flat. At times it was kinda lonely, but it was alright because exams were near and i had to study. The crap thing was the heater malfunction a few times, but at least the maintenance people came to fix it rather efficiently.
It's amazing that i stocked up enough to pull throught the winter without shopping, wonder how i did that. I did however went over to Jon's place to cook a few times. We even had a nice christmas dinner of grilled salmon, steak, mash potatoes and boiled vegetables.

I said earlier that falling snow is like cotton, but it's different when it's on the ground. Walking on snow is like walking on wet sand, but getting hit with a snowball is like getting hit with dry sand! Oooo snow is interesting indeed~

Had a few snowball fights with my friends and it was good fun. Sometimes even strangers join in the fun haha.

Even though it's winter, it doesn't snow everyday, it comes and goes like rain. But when the snow melts in the cold of winter, it turns into a layers of ice. That layer of ice is not fun at all. It's almost impossible to walk on, I slipped a few times but thankfully still in one piece.

I guess that's all I'll cover for winter, wait for next years post! Lol.

End of exams

Tuesday (2/2/2010)

Last paper! Mechanics of Deformable Solids. The paper was alright, at least i could do the questions, made a big error in calculations which lost me plenty of time but overall should be ok. and after that, exams are over!! Wohoooo. Went for nice lunch with friends after that. We were saying that we'll miss studying, how about meeting up later for a group study lol. Played dota till 5am!

Thursday (4/2/2010)

Took a train down to London at 2pm which arrived at 4pm. The sceneries were really pretty as it snowed the day before. *was a little worried about the train skidding*

Upon arriving, I made my way to aunt Julia’s house at South Clapham. She prepared a nice ‘Bak Kut Teh’ dinner for me and handed me a menu of meals for the next 2 days. Totally O.O-ing as I stared at the choices of food. Finally gave Laura her Christmas present, a koala soft toy which she seems to like it so I’m quite happy.

Next day, my aunt prepared ‘Chee Chiong Fun’ for breakfast. I was suppose to meet Sheen and A at 1.30 but she msged saying she was already at South Ken at 12.30. Rushed my way to S.Ken to meet up with them. Sheen brought me to ‘The Hummingbird Bakery’ just outside S.Ken tube station where she bought me 4 cupcakes for my bday present *they taste awesome!* and for my aunt and Laura which my aunt later gave a keychain to her.

Then we headed to ‘GBK’ to have lunch. Gossiped and did some catching up with them about what’s going on. After lunch, they brought me for a mini tour around Imperial College *it’s huge* before heading to Hyde Park for a stroll. We took a few pictures beside the lake before heading back.

Reaching South Clapham, I noticed a sign saying that the station will be closed for the next day and the day after. So I walked to Balham (10mins) and Calpham Common(15mins) to see how far they were . Checked out the bus routes before heading back.

The next morning, I woke up at 9 as my aunt was having some guest over breakfast. I watched over the kids while the adults have their time. They left around 10.30 and I clean up the place before heading upstairs to shower. I met up with Sheen, Nes, Loong and A at 12 for lunch at a restaurant called ‘Fox & Hare’ which offers asian cuisine.

Placed our orders and we started chatting. Nes gave me a box of donuts for my bday, well not just any donut, they’re a dozen of Krispy Kreme donuts!! Wohoo can’t wait to try them. Our food came and I enjoyed my bowl of curry laksa. *why does this post sounds like it’s revolving around food*

Then we headed upstairs to Nes’s place for a visit and chill out. Loong and Nes had an appointment at 2.30 but they’ll be back after an hour so me, Sheen and A went to the Starbucks downstairs for a drink. I fiannaly had my frap after a long long time while Sheen shared her venti cup of hot choc with A. The cup was bound for a new owner haha. After an hour, Nes and Loong came back to join us along with Nimalan. We started talking about old times and time flew by..

Before I knew it, it was already 6 and we bid farewell to each other. Came back to aunt’s place to have dinner and I’m here blogging after that. My train back to Sheffield tomorrow is at 9.30am, guess I better sleep early tonight.

I had the best time coming down to London because of my aunt and awesome friends. Thanks to my aunt Julia for such awesome hospitality, Sheen for the cupcakes and Agnes for the donuts. But most of all thanks for meeting up and having such a nice chat together. =)

Pre Exam Stress

Saturday, 16 January 2010
Finals are just 2 days away and the first paper happens to be the hardest one. Math.

Just thinking about it makes me sleepy already, i think that's one of the reason i slacked for a few days when it was scheduled for math revision on my calender. Though i do wish that i hadn't been so lazy.. cause it turns out that it isn't as hard as i thought it would be after really putting more effort into it.

Partial differential equation doesn't count, that's like madness.... Hmm then again.. i just skipped on it, i mean even the lecturer says it's hard.. But maybe it's not that hard if i actually look into it, just cause everyone says its difficult doesn't mean it's not worth trying huh. Hah i'll give it a go after exams.

Time for some multiple integrals.

Reminder to self : write abt winter after exams.
